“When Investment Becomes Enchanted Retreat: Jen Atkin’s Fairytale Lakefront Getaway in Seattle”
Not every day does an investment property transform into a magical vacation hideaway, but that’s precisely what happened for entrepreneur and celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin and her husband, photographer Mike Rosenthal. Jen describes the moment they first saw their Seattle getaway, saying, “I mean, there were bunnies in the yard… The minute we saw it, we just felt like we were home.”
Although they had explored other areas initially, the couple struggled to find something that truly resonated with them, particularly if it required extensive renovations. Jen explains, “Most of the homes we saw needed a lot of work, which we were not prepared to do as we were still working on our house in LA.” It wasn’t until their last day of property viewings that they stumbled upon this hidden gem.
Jen reminisces, “We walked through the house, and it felt like we had built it ourselves… We kept pinching ourselves. Then we were like, ‘Well, how are we going to talk the owners into letting us take this house?'” After crafting an enthusiastic letter expressing their love for the home, the couple, along with their two children and three dogs, embarked on a new kind of adventure. Mike adds, “It felt like a place where anything was possible.”
