Manchester United attacker Bruno Fernandes has urged his club to move in for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos during this summer’s transfer window. The 21-year-old has had a stellar 2022-2023 season for his Portuguese club, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.
Ramos played a key role in Benfica’s Primeira Liga title, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 30 appearances, while also scoring three goals and providing three assists in the Champions League. League, helping the Eagles reach the quarterfinals.
The forward has three years left on his contract at Estadio da Luz, but there is a lot of speculation surrounding his future at the moment, with a number of clubs said to be keeping an eye on him.
United is looking for a new center-back this summer, and Ramos has been closely linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the 20-time English champions looking for alternatives like Harry’s. Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Victor Osimhen of Napoli.
Fernandes plays with Ramos for Portugal, and the Manchester United attacker speaks volumes about his international teammate’s potential.
“The best always helps, whether it’s Goncalo or another player. He has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United,” Fernandes told A Bola.
“I think he could become a great reference in the years to come, but I am not yet a sporting director… Goncalo has every condition to play in the Premier League, he is very intense, very good pressurizing, and is very good in the area.
“He has surprised me in the national team, not only me but also the rest of my teammates. He is physically strong, he is still young and he will continue to improve.
“If he keeps working as he did, I think he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world, but he needs a more competitive league to prove it. ”
Ramos has seven caps for the national team, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
The center-back is famously preferred over Cristiano Ronaldo in midfield against Switzerland in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup and has responded by scoring a hat-trick in a stellar performance.
Earlier this month, it was reported that United was leading the race for Ramos despite interest from Chelsea, who are also looking to sign a new center-back this summer.
There have also been claims that Erik ten Hag’s side would be willing to pay a club-record fee for the Portuguese this summer, with a deal potentially amounting to £100m after including additional terms.
