Borussia Dortmund throw away the Bundesliga title on final day as Musiala scores a last-minute winner for Bayern Munich

JUDE BELLINGHAM’s farewell party fell through as Borussia Dortmund showed Arsenal how you bottle a trophy.

Real Madrid’s Bellingham, left on the bench following injury, was powerless to stop his side from losing their first Bundesliga title since 2012.

Dortmund players collapsed on the pitch at the end of time

A great season has had a suitable climax, but not the one most Germans would have liked as Bayern Munich won their 11th league title in a row, by a good goal difference.

Dortmund only needed to beat Mainz at home against arch-rivals Bayern Munich to be crowned, but after a tense first half, everything went wrong, cost them dearly.

Sebastien Haller failed to score the penalty right after Mainz took the lead and Black and Yellow were two goals behind at halftime.

Edin Terzic’s side is forced to search for at least three goals in 45 minutes to rescue their dream, provided Bayern can maintain or extend the one-goal lead at Koln.

But a season full of twists and turns is no longer enough for them.

Raphael Guerreiro gave the hosts hope with just over 20 minutes left and Dortmund had plenty of opportunities to complete a spectacular comeback.

Then, Koln equalized with just nine minutes left to put Terzic’s side one point ahead.

But the joy of Dortmund fans was short-lived when Jumal Musiala scored the winner in the 89th minute for Bayern.

The longtime champion held on to the win and Nicklas Sule’s injury-time equalizer for Dortmund came too late.

So Bayern, under the guidance of former Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, have kept their crown – just.

And for the 7th time in that period, Dortmund was the reluctant bridesmaid.

Signal Iduna Park had power before it started. The home team chanted “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, smoke from flares enveloped the pitch and the stage was set for a memorable day in the club’s illustrious history.

So it’s proven but for all the wrong reasons.

Sule, the former Bayern defender of Dortmund, had his first chance, but his volley from the corner was easily saved by Mainz goalkeeper Finn Dahmen.

Then it was reported that Kingsley Coman – who now has 11 major championships at the age of 26 – had put Bayern ahead on goal difference.

Things got even worse in the 15th minute when Mainz defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen was allowed to head from close range in the corner.

And then Haller blew the opportunity to strike back immediately.

After being asked by VAR to review the situation where Dominik Kohr fouled Guerreiro, referee Marco Fritz was awarded a penalty.

But Haller, taking the club’s first penalty kick, shot too close to Dahmen, who made a brilliant save.

Soon after, Dortmund shouted for a second penalty, for another foul on Guerreiro, but both VAR and Fritz said it was of no avail.

Unbelievably, Mainz took a two-goal lead with a header by Karim Onisiwo after Lee Jae-sung’s cross, and Dortmund’s game was turned upside down in less than ten minutes.

You can see the tension spreading in every player in the black and yellow jersey, and hear the tension and skepticism in the crowd.

The blows kept coming when striker Karim Adeyemi was injured. Club captain Marco Reus, six times runner-up with Dortmund, comes in to try to stop it from becoming seven.

The home side struggled to create space as Mainz fell deep but then had three scoring opportunities.

Guerreiro’s shot went over the bar, Julian Brandt saved a shot as a pass seemed a better choice, and Dahmen saved Matt Hummels’ shot from long range.

Donyell Malen headed into the net at half-time.

The only thing that happened to Dortmund was that VAR denied Bayern’s second goal due to a handball by Leroy Sane.

Terzic made another change at half-time, bringing in teenage striker Youssoufa Moukoko in place of right-back Marius Wolf.
